Managed IT for Portland Law Firms
A law firm runs on email, documents, calendars, and trust. When any of those go down, billable work stops. When a phishing email gets through, client funds and confidences are at risk. PDX Information Technology Services is a local IT firm Portland attorneys can hand all of that to. We provide proactive managed IT, cybersecurity, and backups for firms with fewer than 50 people, from downtown Portland to Kruse Way.

What Oregon’s rules expect from your technology
Oregon RPC 1.6(c) requires lawyers to make reasonable efforts to prevent inadvertent or unauthorized disclosure of, or access to, client information. The Oregon State Bar’s Formal Opinion 2011-188 says storing client files with a cloud vendor is acceptable if you take reasonable steps: confidentiality and security terms with the vendor, notice if someone gets unauthorized access, knowing how the vendor backs up data, and re-checking those protections as technology changes.
A managed IT partner handles that kind of work every day. We don’t give ethics advice; that’s your ethics counsel’s job. We put the controls in place and keep records that show your firm took reasonable steps.
Why proactive IT matters for a small firm
The Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro metro has about 1,490 legal services establishments, and almost all of them have fewer than 50 employees (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns, 2023). Oregon trial courts also require active bar members to e-file (UTCR 21.140), so a dead laptop or locked account on the morning of a deadline is more than an inconvenience.
Our managed plans monitor your systems around the clock, patch on a schedule, and staff the help desk, so problems get caught before a filing deadline instead of during one. That’s what IT support Portland firms should expect: prevention, not a repair bill.
Stopping wire fraud and phishing
Fake settlement instructions and look-alike emails from opposing counsel, title companies, or clients are a real risk for any firm that moves money. We help you close the gaps:
- INKY impersonation-aware email protection on Platinum
- MFA on email, document systems, remote access, and banking portals
- External-sender warnings and monitoring for suspicious forwarding rules
- A written verify-before-you-pay process for trust account and settlement disbursements, with callbacks to a known number
- Short, regular security awareness training with current examples, including AI-written phishing

Protecting documents and matter files
- Access limited by matter or practice group, so people see only what they need
- Secure remote access for attorneys who work from home, court, or the road
- Encrypted laptops and clean offboarding when people leave
- Microsoft 365 hardening, including permissions cleanup before anyone turns on Copilot
- Coordination with your practice management and document management vendors. We don’t claim to specialize in any one software brand.
Thinking about AI? Read Microsoft 365 Copilot security for small business before you buy seats.
Backups you can actually restore
Ransomware and accidental deletions happen. We run monitored backups with ransomware-resistant copies, test restores regularly, and document recovery targets you can show a client or an insurer. Details are on our backup and disaster recovery page.
Cyber insurance and the PLF
The Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund offers a Cyber Liability & Breach Response Endorsement on its excess coverage plans. The PLF lists endorsement limits of $100,000 for firms with 1 to 10 attorneys and $250,000 for firms with 11 or more. Carriers commonly ask about MFA, email security, backups, and training when you apply for or renew cyber coverage.
We help you answer those questions with real evidence, not guesses. Coverage decisions stay between you and your carrier. See our cybersecurity services and compliance services.

Frequently asked questions
Can you tell us whether we’re compliant with Oregon RPC 1.6?
No. We’re an IT provider, not ethics counsel. We implement and document the technical safeguards (MFA, encryption, access control, backups, monitoring) that support your reasonable-efforts duty. Ask your ethics counsel or the Oregon State Bar for opinions on specific duties.
Will our matters stay confidential during onboarding?
Yes. We use least-privilege access, document what we touch, and will sign an NDA before we start if you need one.
Do you work with firms in Lake Oswego and on Kruse Way as well as downtown?
Yes. Our office is in Lake Oswego, a few minutes from Kruse Way. Included on-site support covers Portland, Vancouver WA, and Clackamas County with no trip fee.
What if it isn’t a good fit?
We offer a 90-day money-back guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied within 90 days, we uninstall, restore your prior system, and give you a full refund.
Can you help with cyber insurance questionnaires?
Yes. We help you answer with evidence of MFA, email security, backups, and training, not checkbox guesses.
Do you offer IT consulting as well as day-to-day support?
Yes. Managed clients get the IT consulting Oregon firms need for things like moving to cloud practice management, opening a new office, or planning hardware refreshes. It’s all part of one predictable monthly plan, which is why firms call us the IT provider Portland attorneys can actually budget for.
What size firms do you work with?
Firms with fewer than 50 employees, from small partnerships to multi-attorney practices, that want proactive managed IT.
